If you’ve ever woke up on a Sunday morning feeling guilty/shameful after a night of engaging in activities you wouldn’t necessarily be proud to share when the girls at next week’s bible study ask you, “what did you do this weekend?” let me remind you:
The God you serve is, “Gracious, full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy” Psalm 145:8-9.
Yes, you may be thinking, “But doesn’t the Bible say that there are consequences to sin? I should be feeling this shame and guilt!” Shame and guilt are from the enemy, not from God.
Our loving Father knows we’re only human which is why He comforts us in Romans 3:23-24 “ For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”
So don’t waste time digging yourself into a deeper hole, instead focus on what matters: GETTING BACK UP! (Proverbs 24:16)
So you have two choices to make today:
- Allow your shame to not only ruin your day, but also turn you further away from God, and make you more susceptible to the enemies lies as you continue walking with the world (which is what the enemy wants)
OR
- Repent out loud, move on from (XYZ), and use the rest of your day to dwell with Him in your renewed spirit (2 Corinthians 4:16) rejoicing in His mercy <3
The choice is ultimately yours, my dear.
Below is a simple 5-step guide that helps me on those mornings where I need spiritual cleansing:
- Speak these verses out loud regarding God’s mercy
- “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west” Psalm 103:12
- “Son, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven”-Matthew 9:2
- “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved”.- Ephesians 2:4-5
- Have mercy on me, O God,according to your unfailing love;according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions” Psalm 51:1-2
- Confess your sin out loud and then remember its washed away forever (Hebrews 10:10-12)
“Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin” Psalm 32:5
- Be Still and Pray- Even if you don’t know what to pray, simply thank Him for his unfailing love and mercy
- Do a Daily Devotional- I recommend The Daily Bread here that you can subscribe to &/or Joyce Meyer’s daily devotional here
- Listen to a sermon “Only God can Judge Me” . I like this one here for experiencing God’s mercy or go here and choose one that you feel prompted to listen to.
You are renewed; therefore use whatever hours you have left today to rejoice in your spiritual refreshing!

Grace
