I AM LOVED

Self Talk: Why it Matters and How to Change your Narrative

If you’ve listened to any mainstream radio station recently you’re probably familiar with the song, “Giant” by Calvin Harris.

The first few times I listened to it I wondered why such an upbeat song’s chorus would say, “I am tired”.

I laughed when I saw the title and realized the chorus actually says “I am GIANT stand up on my shoulders, tell me what you see”

I can’t help but relate this to my mental talk. Too often I find myself rehearsing the wrong chorus in my head when I know the right lyrics (those recorded in the Bible).

A few examples:

Wrong Lyrics: How is this going to ever work out?? Right Lyrics: “I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?- Jeremiah 32:7

Wrong lyrics: God I don’t feel your presence today Right lyrics: “Come near to God and he will come near to you” James 4:8

Wrong lyrics: I’m not qualified for this why even bother submitting the application when I know I am setting myself up for disappointment? Right Lyrics: For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory- 2 Corinthians 1:20

Wrong lyrics: Ugh I really don’t feel like doing XXX today it’s been a crazy week, etc. Right Lyrics: I can do ALL things through Christ who gives me strength- Philippians 4:13

Do the lyrics you’ve been singing to yourself lately reflect those written about you in the Book of Life?

If not, then today is the day to break that CD and put on a new record because what God has planned for you requires mental toughness.
